NewVu offers individual and family therapy for children along with ongoing support and education for parents.
The children who work well with Melissa tend to be exceptionally intelligent, uniquely insightful, and wise beyond their years. She has specialized training in working with child adoption, sexual abuse, divorce issues, and gifted children.
You're up in the middle of the night worried about your child who…
- Gets overwhelmed even though they're smart and capable
- Is very critical of him/herself
- Has become clingy or is often worried
- Is stressed about school or doing things right
No amount of talking with your child or loved ones about the problem has made a difference.

Your child's smarts and sparkling personality
are being overshadowed by what's happening right now.
I understand your fear and that desperation, which is why I take time to support you. Of course you're at a loss for how to help your little one; there's no manual for parenting!
By reaching out to a professional, you are giving your child an advantage in life. In addition to resolving an issue that could snowball later on and allowing kids to heal, therapy improves a child's ability to communicate, get along with others, and recognize their own gift and talents.
My job is to help make sense of your child's behavior, strengthen the relationship between you two, and provide the guidance to help your child live to their full potential.
Children and teens have always been drawn to me as I am to them. A colleague once called it “magical,” but I like to thank my mom for this gift. I love taking the time to see things through their eyes.
Their work is complex…even if they can’t explain it in words.
How does therapy with a young child work?
Play, art, music, a sand tray, and movement are used in sessions because they help children express themselves and heal. I individually tailor my work through the medium towards which your child naturally gravitates.
Therapy helps kids put words to how they feel, what they think, and the questions they have.
Together we discover what's bothering a child and how to communicate it to you, the parent. I also guide and offer you practical parenting tools + strategies. We work together to fulfill your lifelong commitment to help your child thrive.
Ultimately the goal is to build a close, lifelong relationship between you and your child. As you create that healthy connection, your child will turn to you with their problems.
I have specializations in working with gifted children, worried children, adoption, and family issues and can provide reports + testimony to the courts should legal matters become relevant.
